Respect Your Brain
Hello Friends, Foes, and those In-between,
This month is mental health awareness month (it has been, but I just now got around to writing this post, obviously), and so I thought it would be an interesting thing to discuss what exactly 'respecting your brain' means.
Essentially, I want to start by saying, your brain is an organ but just like any other part of your body- your heart, your stomach, all of these things. If your heart was in pain, you'd take care of it. If you had a stomach ache, you'd take care of it. So why not take care of your brain?
We must strive to keep our minds healthy. It is a true culmination of our being; our thoughts are in our brain, the way we move, speak, think is all in our brain. Our brain helps us function. If it were not for our minds, we wouldn't be able to create, let alone enjoy, art and movies and music.
Sometimes our brains need medicine, and that's okay. If you're on medicine, you are not alone! Many of us do for many different reasons, and it's totally okay to need a little bit of help to keep your brain healthy.
And a healthy brain may be different for some people- mental illnesses are very troubling and may never go away... and believe it or not, that's okay. It's life. People with mental illnesses are just dealing with something, and if they need help, it's good and safe and absolutely okay.
It's important to take care of your body, but it's also very, very, very important to take care of your brain, because it effects so much more than you think- take care of yourselves and give each other grace.
Respect yourself. Respect your brain.
Ciao,
Hannah
